Eden Community Church is a Christian community that is borne out of a deep desire to be a faithful witness to the good news of Jesus Christ in the city of Portland and around the world. This community was officially organized in March of 2015. We gather for worship on Sundays at 5pm at Hope Chinese Charter School.

Today is Ascension Day, 40 days after Resurrection Day! Luke 24:50-53: "When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God." Celebrating Christ’s ascension into Heaven unites believers everywhere by the gift of the Holy Spirit and the HOPE that we have to be with Christ in Heaven. Thank you, Lord, for your promises and assurances!
Join us tomorrow, Sunday, May 25th for a picnic and fellowship at 5pm! We are gathering at our normal location (HOPE Chinese Charter school) outside at the park benches. Bring a main dish for your and your family and a side to share!
Join us in daily prayer leading up to Pentecost. Day 5 – Prayers with Others God has promised that He is present when two or three are gathered in His name (Matthew 18:20). He is also actively involved when we prayer together. Jesus and the Holy Spirit intercede for us when we pray (Romans 8:26-27, 34 & Hebrews 7:25). Today, spend time in prayer with a friend or family member. Take turns praying for each other and praying for others.
Join us for daily prayer leading up to Pentecost. Day 4 – Two Kinds of Asking Prayers In responding prayers, we respond to the Person of God or to the aspects of who He is (holy, glorious, eternal). In responding prayer, we should offer and ask. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Today, ask God in 2 ways: Petition and Intercession. (This does not mean that we ask for what we want. We ask God to reveal what He wants, and how we should respond to His guiding.) Petition: Asking for yourself, your family, your church, or a group that is important to you. Intercession: Asking for someone or something else.
Join us for daily prayer leading up to Pentecost. Day 3 – Four Kinds of Responding Prayers Read and reflect on the instructions given in Psalm 50:14-15. God wants us to identify with Him by becoming more like Him. In relationship with Him, God reveals what He is like. Spend more time today by praying the four types of responding prayers. If it helps, write them down: Confession Praise Worship Thanksgiving
Join us for daily prayer leading up to Pentecost. Day 2 – Responding and Asking Prayers Prayer does not begin with you. God takes the initiative; He begins the relationship. God comes to you and gives you the desire to spend time with Him in prayer. Philippians 2:13 says: “for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Through prayer, God reveal’s His desires for all things and He shapes our faith, desires, thoughts, and actions. God wants us to identify with Him by seeking to be more like Jesus. Jeremiah 33:3 is a good example of God’s promise to answer when we pray: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” To understand Jesus more, we need to spend more time in prayer and scripture. Responding prayers include confession, praise, worship, and thanksgiving. In today’s prayer time, spend time with God with these responses.
Join us for daily prayer leading up to Pentecost. Day 1 – Prayer is a Relationship God wants us to seek a 2-sided relationship with Him. If we are truly desiring to experience God’s presence and direction in our lives, we will seek to develop a relationship with God that allows Him to develop our character. Relationship with Him leads us to humility and obedience. He does not dwell with the proud and arrogant. In your prayer today, seek God. Ask Him to help you understand His love in the way He gives it, not the way you want it. Ask for evidence of His guidance in your life. Read the following verses and pray as scripture has directed: Deuteronomy 6:5 - You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Revelation 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. John 14:23 - Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

An important update from Pastor Jason...
We had a great week at Explore Camp last week connecting with friends, making new ones, and learning about God's love for us. Thank you so much to all of the volunteers who shared their time, skills, and passions with all of the kids who attended!
Dear Eden Community church family: As many of you know, I'm a delegate to the global gathering of Nazarenes in Indianapolis. Tonight, I worshiped in a room with Nazarene Christians who have been imprisoned for their faith in Jesus Christ. Some of them have had family or friends martyred because of their commitment to Jesus and living out this thing called "church." For their commitment to love their neighbors and serve their enemies. To share Jesus and serve him. To gather and grow in grace. I'm challenged in a deeply personal way and I want to pass that challenge on to you. The God of the universe loves us deeply and desires to transform us completely from an inward-looking, selfish, self-serving people into love-filled, others-focused, pure-hearted, missional people. When I hear stories of places and people that are transformed by God's grace and Spirit, I see a people who are praying for just that. Prayer is the greater work! So - I challenge you tonight. Pray for LIFE in your own heart. Pray for me. Pray for our church community. Pray for our neighbors, friends, city, world. For those who don't yet know this love of Christ. And then "when you pray, move your feet," as the African proverb says. Be present in worship regularly. Bring your whole self. Don't let your life in Christ and community be something that you just pursue only if/when you have left over time or it's convenient. Reach out to others. Seek community. Invite and welcome others in, trusting that the Spirit has already opened the door. Take risks. Open your Bibles. Read. Pray. Reflect. And obey. Give sacrificially (some of us need this challenge!). Trust God with it all! Repent of criticism. Serve joyfully. As we pray and respond to God's grace, God will do "immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine." I will miss not being with you tomorrow as you gather in smaller groups in homes. Tomorrow, I will be worshiping and sharing at the table with 20-30 thousand brothers and sisters in Christ. I know the same risen Christ, through his Spirit, will be present at your tables as well. I will be praying for you and love you all...
